Air Jordan 6 “Black Infrared”

Darren Griffin | Feb 11, 2019

Overhauling much of its retro collection with premium construction and original branding, Jordan Brand continues this monumental task as the Air Jordan 6 “Black Infrared” returns with Nike Air this weekend.

Moreover, the shoe has been one of the more visible Air Jordan 6 retros since the turn of the century.

Alongside the aforementioned 2000 release, the shoe was also seen in 2010 as one part of the “Infrared Pack” and then again in 2014.

Each of those retro releases featured Jumpman branding at the heel.Last released with true to form branding back in 2000, “Black Infrared” 6s hold a special place in hoops lore as Michael Jordan won his first championship in the shoe during the 1991 NBA Finals.

Images of the 2019 Air Jordan 6 OG “Black Infrared” have been captured above and below by our own Rob Mata thanks to our friends at Kicking It ATX. Note these for a February 16th release date.

The year is not quite over yet, but we've gone ahead and rounded up our picks for the best Jordans of the year, so far.

Each weekend brings a laundry list of big releases, and we know all too well that keeping track of 2019's best drops is no small task. At the end of the year, look out for our annual Highsnobiety Crowns awards, where we recap the best of the best, including the best sneakers that dropped over 12 months. In case you missed it, our pick for the best sneaker of 2018 was the Nike React Element 87.

From OG Air Jordan sneakers that were worn by Michael himself, to new updated color stories and much more, these are the best Jordans of 2019.

Nike Air Jordan 6 "Infrared"

Distinguished as the sneaker Michael Jordan was wearing when first hoisted the NBA championship trophy in 1991, the Air Jordan 6 was designed by Tinker Hatfield, who took inspiration from the Porsche 911 that Jordan was driving at the time. While features like the neoprene sleeve, translucent rubber sole and visible air have always been mainstays of the Jordan 6, this 2019 release of the original "Infrared" colorway comes with Nike Air branding on the heel, for the first time since the colorway's 2000 release. Furthermore, the "Infrared" scheme is one of Nike's most important color stories, popularized in part by the Nike Air Max 90 from 1990.

It’s been a long time coming — but good things come to those who wait, and the day is finally imminent: the beloved, sportscar-inspired Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” complete with OG Nike Air branding on the heel is coming back. Holding an esteemed place in the pantheon of retro Jordans — one that’s only matched by other legendary kicks like the “Concord” Air Jordan 11 and “Black Cement” Air Jordan 3 — 2019’s version of the “Infrared” features true-to-the original detailing and colors that are sure to make even the most hardened Air Jordan fans crack a small smile. The timeless model Michael Jordan captured his very first NBA Championship in is releasing as part of Jordan Brand’s All-Star Weekend festivities in Charlotte, and they’re sure to fly off shelves across the country faster than His Airness flew to the hoop. Looking to add a pair to your collection? Expect the Air Jordan 6 Infrared to arrive February 16th with a retail price of $200 USD at select Jordan Brand stockists, and check out our Jordan Release Dates page for more JB drop info while you wait.
